I don't see this as the point of your well-constructed sermon, but in reading it I'm reminded that when I learn of discrepancies among the gospels, and contradictions in various places throughout the Bible, it brings the reality of the writings into focus. These were real people. Jesus was a real man. History gives us context; myth gives us meaning. I see the Bible as somewhere between the two.

It's very hard to justify literalism and narrow orthodoxy when you have four authorized versions of Jesus, with nuisances between them. Did you see this sermon? The stones of this building are the most permanent thing they can imagine.

There are many ideas and concepts in your sermon that touched my soul, but the one above is what I will contemplate today. First, what are the stones I find most permanent, why and are they ‘permanent’? Then what permanent stones are others fighting to keep, perhaps it will help me better understand or at least see a portion of their view of life.
